Most of HWI's development projects will include some form of embedded firmware or applications software. We have experience with a wide variety of processors and systems including 4, 8, 16, and 32 bit processors, as well as DSP. Other designs have included external bus control and design, System on Chip (SOC) and configurable peripheral hardware, and oscillator design.

These systems have been integrated into a wide range of applications as well. Medical monitoring devices have included TENS, vital signs monitoring, electro-dental anesthesia, and artificial prosthetics. RF telemetry devices have included spread spectrum transceivers and digital PLL control. Motion control has included PID systems, servo control and machine control. Positional and GPS systems have included dynamic position sensors and GPS positioning. In addition, frequency analysis has included vital signs detectors and very small signal (below noise floor) analysis.

HWI is committed to investing in development tools to support any processor a customer might choose. We have development systems in house for several dozen different processor families, and generally add to that with each new project. Embedded design engineers at HWI have a strong understanding of both hardware and software (firmware) issues, which allows us to move to new processor cores very quickly.

Software design includes windows applications development as well as development in C/C++, Visual Basic, and assembly languages. Additionally, object-oriented design is utilized, and designs requiring UML are also supported. Documentation is a key element, with verification and validation support being integrated throughout the process.
